SEPTEMBER 16th, 1995
My thoughts are difficult to compose. What to say after a year?
Every one of the logos above represent a new era in RTS. Change of command,
fresh starts, new attitudes, change of direction and the arrival and sad
farewells to the best traders and brethren to grace the scene.
I thought it would be better to cancel the fireworks shipment and go over
some memories with you all. Call it free-thought reminiscing. Something us
old-school people tend to enjoy. Hope it strikes a cord.
- ORDNANCE -
Founder/Senior
09-13-94 : Names are hard to come up with. After a week of deliberations
the following names were churned: FFC (Fire and Forget Couriers)
FLiGHT (?)
RaTS (?)
CuRB (?)
The major dilemma was that everyone involved wanted a name as
distant as possible from the numerous failing release and
couriering groups to grace the summer of '94.
Dorian Hawkmoon, co-founder, came up with RTS. Didn't seem hot.
Rapid Transit System, Rapid Transfer Service, etcetera were a few
of the names peddled. Nothing that would stick.
Suddenly, as all good things happen, it came to me.
Simplicity. Modems have RTS/CTS.
Request to Send it became.
(not ready to send, look it up)
09-14-94 : Around this time we had organized our userbase, supplied by a few
remnants of the defunct TiDT and largely supplemented by those
who were looking to the only hope apart from RiSC. Our promise.
Also, I have to add my appreciation for all the support Marauder
(then RZR Senior) gave us during our critical beginnings.
09-16-94 : The first RTS nfo. Logo by K-Spiff, then in UNioN.
To say our sudden appearance took the scene by storm would be
crazy. Here are the founding fathers, who set the framework
for this group's survival. It would be tempting to introduce
each, but only a novel on each would do justice.
Top to bottom and left to right, we are all equal.
Interesting symbolism, eh? My philosophy on leadership.

ORDNANCE
The group could go nowhere without founding couriers, now could it?
Most of notable of which are: Pale Horse (still in)
Skyy King "
Eclipse "
Local Yocal "
not to mention: Savage Dragon
Savage Fury
Marillion
Dark Wing
Gate Keeper
Freefall
Redcat
Abuser
CHP
and soon: Double Density
Ptarmigan Knight.
They dazzled us for months upon months.
Compare their couriering to the Energizer Bunny.
Hope you guys see this <g>
09-21-94 : RTS beats RiSC on #warez with Wing Commander Armada.
It reads like the Truman headline, but its significance was
massive attention drawn to our group.
What ever happened to those nifty races?
Seemed to have died down like 3D in the 70's.
I would like to say that I love RiSC dearly and always have.
RTS is not intent on destroying them, and I do not perceive
the opposite to be true. I could write forever on it, but
instead I'll just say hi to Mikey. Hi Mikey!
09-23-94 : Unlawful Entry seized by the Secret Service under the
implication of selling calling cards online.
Sad day that all of you should remember, so I won't
resurface the names of the major players.
Mirage and a few other prominent boards went down for
a short time until the nature of the sting operation
became known.
10-07-94 : Major narc attempt on Ordnance (me)
Failed with no damage to my personal life and serious allegations
returning to the narc. Never did find out what transpired.
Needless to say, the one who had the information to go all the way
was dealt with well by my contacts. I never did follow-up.
One thing I must briefly say. My personal opinion is that in our
recreational use of computers, a narc is the type of human being
who DOES NOT DESERVE TO LIVE. Those who can't understanding the
repercussions of mixing our harmless scene with REAL PERSONAL LIVES
(jobs, families, money, security, freedom) are beyond help.
10-20-94 : Dreamweaver of PWA sentenced to 1yr (probation 6mo) for
calling card fraud. A clash between the scene and reality
which hurt him hard. He's truly a good friend to those who
know him. And yes, he is back.
Remember, boys.... be wary of that thin line.
----------------
I'd hate to close on such a sad note but, for one, it is very very
significant to us all. And even more so, we have almost reached November,
a whole new era for RTS.
Only one personal greet not already mentioned applies to this document.
Jake the Snake, what can I say? Perseverance, guidance, wisdom. You're the
best to us. Keep it like clockwork. Here's to many more long long years. :)
RTS : Keeping this short. Each and every one of you are up above the rest.
A toast to all our traders past, present and future.
Vacation? Never again. (some of you got that one ;)
Dorian -- Burn out? Us? Hah. Thank you for everything.
BGI -- You know what I want you to do.
Cryptic Pain -- '94 would not apply. But you meant a lot in 95. Tnx.
! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY !
RiSC : Read what I said about you guys. Years and years.
Rise in Superior Couriering is an institution that my grandchildren
will hear about.
Seniors/Coords - Nothing ages you like this kind of time and effort.
Did someone say grandchildren?
Be sure to look me up in the great beyond.
Old-School - You guys are the remnants of the first generation.
Since RiSC is the proving grounds for most of you,
accept my greetings and thanks for many many hours
of senseless reminiscing about past journeys in a
land of fantasy. Or something similar to that.
Traders - Who says courier anymore? Not I.
Put group loyalty aside and we are all in the same boat.
Work and heart go hand in hand. Don't forget it.
Thanks for working with us for the scene.
Fatal Connection : This group no longer exists. But my appreciation goes
out to all the guys that made it happen. A few of which
graced RTS with their talent.
Those who know me, get in touch sometime.
FaTE : I cannot say that three cooks don't spoil the broth, but I appreciate
the honor with which the seniors seem to be running things.
Red Dog - I owe you some good conversations now that I have more time
on my hands. See you soon.
New Trading Groups : Give it up and respect the social and political factors
in our virtual worlds. The best of you don't last long.
Instead of trying to challenge the world, try to apply
yourselves in a positive manner. And if not, expect to
find me knocking on your door. With an axe. Really :)
