Dan Peebles 828547556e botocore: 1.12.48 -> 1.12.62
boto3: 1.9.36 -> 1.9.62
awscli: 1.16.72

I update all three of these at a time because they rely on each other
and get annoyed when such changes are non-atomic. Also added a note to
the packages telling people that this is needed. I tested awscli and the
libraries against a real account.

Dan Peebles eeeeacc9a6 Revert "stdenv/darwin: bump bootstrap tools"
This accidentally added some unwanted dependencies on the bootstrap
tools, and I don't have time to fix before I go on vacation, so I'm
backing it out until I have time to address it properly.

This reverts commit dc5c68a7bb.

Dan Peebles 2c51846728 qt48: fix on darwin
because it's ancient, it relies on ancient APIs that Apple has deprecated
for literally years. Our new CoreFoundation cleanup means those APIs are no longer here, so let's kill the functionality. Eventually support for it
got removed from upstream too, so it's not as if we're doing anything too
awful here.

Dan Peebles 110c252870 cctools: support LTO on Darwin

Dan Peebles 4efd4053ed stdenv/darwin: integrate a new CoreFoundation

Dan Peebles ff9999ad1b linux: translate config to structured config
Instead of using a string to describe kernel config, use a nix
attribute set, then converted to a string.
- allows to override the config, aka convert 'yes' into 'modules' or
vice-versa
- while for now merging different configs is still crude (last spec wins),
at least there should be only one CONFIG_XYZ value compared to the current string
config where the first defined would be used and others ignored.

Dan Peebles 0cb623c3d9 fetchurl: add user agent
It would be nice to be able to track Nix requests. It's not trustworthy,
but can be helpful for stats and routing in HTTP logs.

Since `fetchurl` is used so widely, we should "magically" get a UA on
`fetchzip`, `fetchFromGitHub`, and other related fetchers.

Since `fetchurl` is only used for fixed-output derivations, this should
cause no mass rebuild.

User-Agent example: curl/7.57.0 Nixpkgs/18.03

Dan Peebles f5b3f2c5a7 make-disk-iamge: use faketime to get a consistent timestamp
This fixes #28768 because during an image build, Nix sees bad store
timestamps and attempts to fix them, but can't fix them on a running
system (due to being inside a builder). Since timestamps on the store
are supposed to be 1 anyway, if we fix this, that fixes image building
inside booted images made this way.

Note that this adds quite a bit of noise to the output, because running
`cptofs` under `faketime` causes a bunch of seemingly spurious error
messages and my attempts to suppress them all failed. We'll fix it when
`cptofs` gets a native timestamp preservation feature.

This version should have more conventional regexes that work across many

Darwin and Linux. And in Nix 1.12, we're moving to std::regex which will
also behave differently here.

Dan Peebles f1708a9d7d make-disk-image: change to be less VM-centric
This changes much of the make-disk-image.nix logic (and thus most NixOS
image building) to use LKL to set up the target directory structure rather
than a Linux VM. The only work we still do in a VM is less IO-heavy stuff
that while still time-consuming, is less of the overall load. The goal is
to kill more of that stuff, but that will require deeper changes to NixOS
activation scripts and switch-to-configuration.pl, and I don't want to
bite off too much at once.
2017-04-24 02:30:00 +00:00
Dan Peebles d990aa7163 Refactor nixos-install to separate out filesystem build logic
The key distinction I'm drawing is that there's a component that deals
with the store of the machine being built, and another component for
the store building it. The inner part of it assumes nothing from the
builder (doesn't need chroot or root powers) so it can run comfortably
inside a Nix build, as well as nixos-rebuild. I have some upcoming work
that will use that to significantly speed up and streamline image builds
for NixOS, especially on virtualized hosts like EC2, but it's also a
reasonable speedup on native hosts.
